The Company

Northern Leisure Sales began trading, as a home-based family business, in January 1987 with two working partners and a small range of tapestries. The product base was expanded to include sequin motifs, beads and acrylic gemstones and the now familiar hang-sell packaging was introduced.

The period from late 1987 to 1990 saw rapid growth with the product range increasing and the customer list extending to all Australian States, New Zealand, Papua and New Caledonia.

In January 1991 the business moved to its current location in Taree with directors Graeme Hoare and Elizabeth Tollis and a staff of nine. The product range continued to grow and services were expanded to include private brand packaging for chain stores and wholesalers in Australia and Europe.

By December 2000 Northern Leisure Sales had a staff of 33 (including outworkers) and a diverse range of fashion and craft products sourced within Australia and from countries in Asia, Europe and America. The policy of buying in bulk and packaging locally has enabled the Company to remain competitive in a difficult trading environment
